About the $50 Gold Eagles

The $50 Gold Eagle coins are one of America’s most iconic and desirable bullion coins. Produced by the United States Mint since 1986, the Gold Eagle coins have become a staple in the precious metals industry.

The obverse side of each coin features the Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ beautiful rendition of Lady Liberty with a flowing torch, olive branch, and sunlit rays in the background. Inscriptions on the front of the coin include “LIBERTY,” the year of issue, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse side of the coin bears a representation of a male Bald Eagle carrying an olive branch as it flies above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. Inscriptions on the back include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “FIFTY DOLLARS”, and “1 OZ.. FINE GOLD.”

The $50 Gold Eagle coins are composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper. While the coins are legal tender with a face value of $50, the precious metal content makes them more of a collectible item than a typical coin.

When the $50 Gold Eagle coins were first produced in 1986, they marked the first time since 1933 that the United States Mint was producing a gold bullion coin. Since then, they have grown in popularity due to their collectible value, beautiful design, and reliability as a safe-haven asset in times of economic uncertainty.

The coins have seen tremendous growth in respect to collectible value since their initial mintage. When the coins first started being produced in 1986, they had a melt value of approximately $1,397.97 per coin. Today, the coins are worth much more, depending on the condition and specific year of issue.

The $50 Gold Eagle coins are perfect for investors and collectors alike. As one of America’s most recognizable coins, they can be great as an addition to any precious metals portfolio. For those just looking for an eye-catching collectible to display, the 1986 to present $50 Gold Eagle coins can make a great addition.
