The obverse is the portrait in left profile of george washington, the first president of the united states from 1789 to 1797. It reads “LIBERTY IN GOD WE TRUST”. The reverse is general washington commanding his troops through the overnight crossing of the ice-choked delaware river prior to the battle of trenton during the american revolutionary war. It reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA E PLURIBUS UNUM CROSSING THE DELAWARE QUARTER DOLLARั”.
