The Seated Liberty Dollar, sometimes referred to as the Gobrecht Dollar, was a one dollar silver coin minted from 1840 to 1873. It was designed by Christian Gobrecht and became the first silver variety of the Liberty Head type. The coin was struck in denominations of half dollars, quarters, dimes, and half dimes and was made of 90% silver, 10% copper. The obverse of the coin featured Lady Liberty seated with a Liberty pole on one side and a shield on the other. The reverse had an eagle with wings spread, holding an olive branch and arrows in its claws.

The obverse is seated liberty looking right above her shoulder, with a cap on a stick and a shield, 13 stars around. It reads “1870”. The reverse is eagle with arrows and olive branch in talons, banner with motto above. It reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN GOD WE TRUST ONE DOL.”.
