The Roosevelt Dime is a US dime that was produced from 1946 to date. It was designed by John Sinnock and minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The coin honors the nation’s 32nd President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The obverse design of the Roosevelt Dime features a bust of President Roosevelt in a style similar to the 1916 Mercury Dime. The rim reads “Liberty” and the motto “In God We Trust” curls around Roosevelt’s bust.
The reverse of the Roosevelt Dime features a stylized torch with the legend “United States of America” and “One Dime” around the torch. A branch to the left of the torch bears three leaves and two berries, while a square with a single vertical line appears to the right. The year is displayed at the bottom of the reverse.
The Roosevelt Dime has undergone various content and design modifications over the years. Pre 1965 coins were composed of 90% silver. From 1965 to today, the Roosevelt Dime is composed of copper and nickel with the copper content peaking at 95.5% in 1973.
Today, the Roosevelt Dime is one of the few US coins struck every year, making it one of the most widely collected coins in the world. Certified specimens can bring high prices, with many coins worth thousands of dollars for their rarity and condition.
No matter the year or condition, the Roosevelt Dime remains popular among today’s collectors and marks a vital part of the nation’s history.
