About the Lincoln Bicentennial Cents

The Lincoln Bicentennial Cents are a commemorative series of coins issued by the United States Mint to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln. The series includes four designs, each one representing a different era of Lincoln's life. The first design, issued on February 12, 2009, centers around the log cabin where Lincoln was born. The second coin, issued on May 14, 2009, focuses on his years as a lawyer in Illinois. The third coin, released on August 13, 2009, pays tribute to his Presidency during the Civil War. Finally, the fourth coin issued on November 12, 2009, depicts Lincoln delivering his Gettysburg Address. The coins feature a likeness of Lincoln on the obverse, with a shield at the top and an inscription of "In God We Trust" at the left edge. On the reverse is a representation of the log cabin, with a Large Shield and "One Cent" also inscribed. The coins are delivered in collector’s boxes with separate cards for each one and are made in both copper-nickel clad composition and 95% copper composition. They feature a Matte Proof finish, making them more resistant to wear and tear. These coins have been highly sought after by collectors, and Mint figures indicate the coins have sold over 32.8 million pieces. They are a reminder of the legacy of the 16th President of the United States and serve as a representation of his impact on history.
