The 1878 Queen Victoria Third Farthing coin, engraved by William Wyon, and made of copper. Weighing 1.57 grams, with a diameter of 16 mm, and a thickness of 0.9 mm, and featuring a plain edge.
The obverse is first uncrowned portrait ('young head') of queen victoria facing left, legend around and date below. It reads "VICTORIA DEI GRATIA 1844". The reverse is seated figure of britannia right, holding trident in left hand and shield bearing the union flag in left, legend around and national flower emblems in exergue. It reads "BRITANNIAR: REG: FID: DEF:".
