Stack's Bowers Galleries held its June 2026 Showcase Auction in conjunction with the Whitman Expo in Baltimore, offering more than 3,200 lots across seven sessions spanning colonial coins, federal rarities, patterns, and Numismatic Americana. Headliners in the inaugural session included a 1921 Harding Inaugural medal in silver — fewer than 10 known — and a breathtaking 1945 Franklin Roosevelt Inaugural in gold, originally presented to Saudi Arabian King Ibn Saud by FDR in the final days of World War II. Stack's Bowers president Brian Kendrella called demand for top-end pieces "insatiable."

The U.S. Mint launched the first entry in its five-part "Best of the Mint" series on June 4: the 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set. The set pairs a 1/10-oz .9999 fine 24-karat gold coin carrying Adolph Weinman's iconic Winged Liberty Head design (and a Liberty Bell "250" privy mark) with a one-ounce silver medal offering a modern reinterpretation of the same era. Limited to just 30,000 sets with a one-per-household order cap for the first 24 hours, strong sell-through was expected. Four more sets in the series — featuring progressively larger gold coins — will follow throughout 2026.

Collector Peter Dickson has reported what may be the first documented example of a 1909-S/S Indian Head cent with a repunched "S" mintmark — a variety that apparently went unnoticed for roughly 120 years on a coin with a mintage of just 309,000. Dickson is urging owners of 1909-S Indian Head cents to examine the reverse mintmark closely. If confirmed as a distinct variety, it would be a significant find for small-cent specialists.
