LuckyCoin Weekly — July 21, 2026

July 21, 2026

Gold cracked the $4,000 barrier and is holding firm at $4,008.65 this week — a level that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago. Silver, meanwhile, slid 2.2%, and if you're sitting on a roll of junk dimes, that dip trimmed nine cents off each one's melt value. The divergence between the two metals is worth paying attention to: gold is telling one story, silver is telling another.

Stack's Bowers June Showcase Sets Summer Whitman Expo Record at $13.2M

Stack's Bowers June Showcase Sets Summer Whitman Expo Record at $13.2M

Stack's Bowers Galleries' June 2026 Showcase Auction, held alongside the Whitman Expo in Baltimore, closed at nearly $13.2 million across more than 3,200 lots — the highest total ever for a Summer Whitman Expo Showcase and more than double the June 2025 result. The top lot was the unique 1878 Judd-1566 pattern quarter eagle, which realized $439,200 and edged past its own prior auction record. Demand was broad: colonial coins, Barber coinage, inaugural medals, and even physical cryptocurrency all found active bidders.

1917 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Mintmark Mystery Finally Solved

A July 14 CoinWeek deep-dive by Roger W. Burdette used two long-overlooked Mint letters to definitively answer one of the most persistent questions in Walking Liberty half dollar collecting: why the 1917 issue carries its mintmark in two different positions. The documentary evidence had sat unexamined for decades. For collectors of the series, the article puts a clean factual foundation under what had long been a matter of inference and debate.

2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated Silver Eagle Goes on Sale Today

2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated Silver Eagle Goes on Sale Today

Today — July 21 — is the release date for the 2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated American Silver Eagle, a finish the series hasn't seen since the 2013-W issue and only the second time in Eagle history it has appeared. The one-ounce .999 fine silver coin carries the dual date 1776~2026 and a Liberty Bell "250" privy mark. Subscriptions were open at $169, with a mintage cap of 125,000 — the companion 2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated Gold Eagle sold out in under two minutes earlier this year, so demand for the silver version is expected to be fierce.

Silver's drop knocked a full $1.25 off the melt value of an American Silver Eagle (now $56.34) and $0.97 off a Morgan or Peace dollar (now $43.57), while gold's quiet 0.2% gain pushed the 1 oz Gold Eagle melt up $8.59 to exactly match spot at $4,008.65 — a tidy reminder that silver and gold don't always move in lockstep.

Silver on sale, gold over $4,000, and a brand-new Enhanced Unc Eagle hitting the Mint's site this morning — plenty to keep an eye on. Happy hunting out there, and as always, drop me a line if you find something worth sharing. — Matthew
