The America the Beautiful Quarters (ATB) are a series of collectible coins released by the United States Mint starting in 2010. The coins celebrate the beauty and history of the country by featuring fifty-six designs, one for each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories. The coins have a diameter of 24.3 mm and a metal composition of 91.67% copper, 8.33% nickel, with a face value of 25 cents.
The America the Beautiful Quarters are part of a larger program by the U.S. Mint called the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. This program was established in 2009 and is designed to honor national parks, monuments, and historic sites. The Mint releases five new designs each year, with each design representing a different U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory. Each design is related to the celebrated location and depicts images of natural and historic sites within that location.
Since the launch of the program in 2010 through 2021, the U.S. Mint has released over 250 million coins every year. Although each coin is still worth 25 cents and can be used in everyday transactions, many of the coins have become highly collectible. Collectors can purchase the coins in both raw and certified form, with many rare coins selling for prices far exceeding their face value.
Production of The America the Beautiful Quarters were ceased in 2021, but those looking to join in on the collecting action still have plenty of time to start as they are widespread in circulation. Whether you’re a coin collector or simply appreciate the beauty of the U.S. Mint’s coins, the America the Beautiful Quarters are definitely worth taking a look at.
