The Draped Bust $5 coins were issued by the United States Mint from 1795 to 1807 and were designed by then-Mint Engraver Robert Scot. These coins feature Lady Liberty on the obverse, with her hair up and covered in a band, and a small shield at her breast representing America's strength. On the reverse is an eagle with a banner depicting the country's motto 'E Pluribus Unum', and the denomination of the coin.
These coins were very popular in the early 19th century and were widely used for commerce and trade. The denomination makes them particularly attractive to collectors, as it was quite a large sum of money for the time and made them very valuable.
The coins are made from high grade silver and many varieties were produced, including the Capped Bust (1795-1807), the Classic Head (1808-1836), and the Turban Head (1829-1836). They were also produced in gold in the form of the Half Eagle (1795-1807), and the Quarter Eagle (1808-1834).
The Draped Bust $5 coins are highly sought after by collectors today, due to their beautiful designs and rarity. Many of these coins are in top condition and can easily bring in big values at auctions. Another interesting fact about these coins is that they were struck in many different locations, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, Charlotte, Dahlonega, and San Francisco.
Overall, the Draped Bust $5 coin is a classic American piece of currency and a reminder of our country’s proud history. As a collector’s item, these coins will only become more valuable with time, making it an excellent addition to any numismatic collection.
