About the Draped Bust $2.5

The Draped Bust $2.5 was struck by the United States Mint between 1796 and 1807. It was the first coin minted under Mint Director Elias Boudinot and is considered to be among the most important coins in American history. The coin depicts a bust of Liberty wearing a drapery on the obverse and a small eagle on the reverse.

The coin is composed of .8924 gold, .1336 silver, and .9740 copper, giving it a mild luster. Its diameter is 24.3 mm, its weight is 4.37 grams, and its edge is lettered.
