About the Presidential Dollar

The Presidential Dollar coin was first issued in 2007 and was created to honor deceased U.S. presidents. It features an image of the president on one side and the Statue of Liberty on the reverse. It is minted from golden-colored clad metal and has a diameter of 26.5 millimeters. The edge of the coin has "E Pluribus Unum," the date, the mint mark, and the precious metal weight inscribed.

The images of the Presidents that adorn the reverse side of the coin are selected in order of death.

Despite the intention to honor U.S. presidents, the Presidential Dollar coin has been criticized for its lack of acceptance from the general public. People are familiar with the traditional dollar coins, but the Presidential Dollar coin is relatively new. This unfamiliarity can lead to confusion and acceptance problems.

Additionally, the Presidential Dollar coins have been criticized for their poor design. The images of the presidents often appear to be artificial or computer-generated and are not as detailed as what can be found on other coins. This can be off-putting to some people and makes it harder for people to connect with the image of a specific president.

Despite its shortcomings, the Presidential Dollar coin has done its part in honoring U.S. presidents. It continues to be produced and is part of the U.S. Mint’s history. For collectors, it is a great way to commemorate presidents and their impact on the United States.
