About the Silver

The Silver 1892 - 1954 commemorative coins are part of a long-standing tradition in coin collecting. These coins were created as a way to honor significant events, commemorate military battles and recognize significant historical figures in the United States. They range in price from low denominations to high end collector pieces.

The coins come from many eras, from the first commemorative coins from 1892 (Columbian half dollars), through World War I, the Great Depression, World War II and ending with Atomic Test Site half dollars from 1954. The coins feature a wide range of designs, from George Washington to classic Greek figures and detailed animal depictions. Each coin is special in its own way and is meant to evoke a feeling of patriotism, pride and respect.

The Minting Process Each of the Silver 1892 - 1954 commemorative coins were minted according to a very specific set of criteria. Each coin was composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, to create a stable and durable coin. They were also composed according to strict size and weight regulations, which are still in place today. The coins were struck with dies, which were designs impressed into the coins to create a raised or recessed design.

Designs The Silver 1892 - 1954 commemorative coins feature a wide range of designs. George Washington commemoratives feature his famous profile on the obverse (front side) and the reverse shows an eagle with a shield. There are also designs honoring significant events like the Louisiana Purchase and the Panama Pacific Exposition. Other coins feature classic Greek figures like the goddess Athena, animals such as the American bald eagle, and Native American related designs.

Value The Silver 1892 - 1954 commemorative coins vary greatly in value, depending on their condition, rarity, and grade. Coins that are in good condition and are graded MS-65 (Mint State-65) or higher typically command higher values. Some of the more rare coins, such as the 1915-S Panama-Pacific half dollars, can be worth up to $10,000.

The Silver 1892 - 1954 commemorative coins are a reflection of the past, and a reminder that today’s United States was founded on a strong foundation, with glorious moments and invaluable lessons. These coins will continue to carry their value into the future, making them a great investment and a wonderful addition to any coin collection.
