About the Modern Silver

Silver commemorative coins were first issued by the United States in 1982. These coins were released in honor of commemoration of historical events, places, people or just plain good luck. Since then, the United States has issued many silver coins bearing images of America’s greatest moments.

One of the earliest modern silver commemorative coins released was the 1982 Washington Half Dollar, created to honor the 250th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. The obverse of the coin displays a bust of the first President of the United States.

In 1986, the Statue of Liberty Half Dollar was also released. This coin featured the iconic Lady Liberty, a replica of the New York harbor statue and a symbol of America’s freedom and democracy.

Besides these two coins, other silver commemorative coins have been issued including the 1991 Mt. Rushmore Half Dollar, the 1992 Olympic Half Dollar, and the 1993 Bill of Rights Half Dollar. All of these coins display images of America’s most important triumphs.

The 1996 Atlanta Olympics Silver Dollar set a world-record price when it sold for $477,500 at auction. The obverse of the coin highlights the Olympic logo along with “Centennial Olympic Games”, “Atlanta” and “1996”.

Modern silver commemorative coins are highly collectible and can be used as part of an investment strategy or to commemorate an important event. Any coin purchased must be of the correct size, weight and purity. The coins should also have their intended design and no noticeable marks or damage.

In addition to the coins mentioned earlier, other commemorative coins have been released in silver including the 2001 United States USS Constitution Silver Dollar, the 2003 First Flight Silver Dollar, and the 2004 Lewis and Clark Expedition Silver Dollar.

The modern silver commemorative coins issued by the United States commemorate some of the most iconic and important moments in the nation’s history. From George Washington to the Statue of Liberty and from the Olympics to the Bill of Rights, these coins provide a tangible icon of those moments and serve as a reminder of the nation’s achievements.
