About the Modern Gold

The Modern Gold commemorative coins from 1984-present provide metal collectors with beautiful pieces of coinage to admire and collect. Since 1984, the United States Mint has released many special gold coins to commemorate significant events and individuals.

The modern gold coins come in quarter-ounce, one-twelfth-ounce, one-quarter-ounce and one-tenth-ounce sizes each with a thickness of 1.28mm. Each coin is made up of .9167 fine gold, also known as 22-karat gold, that is alloyed with 3% copper to make the coins durable and more resistant to scratching. The gold coins feature a classic, conservative design that preserves their versatile presentation.

These gold coins provide a variety of historic and patriotic themes to choose from, such as the Gold Buffalo coins released in 2006 to honor the contributions of Native Americans, the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Gold Coins from 2004 which celebrates the 1804-1806 Corps of Discovery Expedition, and the 2006 US Mint American Eagle anniversary coins that commemorate the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle gold bullion series. As well as capturing important historic events, many of the coins celebrate iconic U.S. figures such as the ones released to honor President John F. Kennedy, President Reagan, and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court William Rehnquist.

Modern Gold 1984-present coins offer metal collectors an ideal balance of aesthetic value, coin composition, accessibility, and historic significance. The multiple sizes and designs make them a attractive addition to any collection. Those interested in collecting gold coins of this era have a vast selection of coins issued between 1984 and today, each with its own unique story.
