The obverse is young laureate bust of queen elizabeth ii right, legend around. note: with 'britt:omn'. It reads “+ ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA BRITT:OMN:REGINA”. The reverse is crowned quartered shield of arms flanked by e and r, legend above, denomination and date below. It reads “+ FID· ·DEF + E R E·F C·T HALF CROWN 1953”.
